Replace the wines list with a water map? In La Popote, a French kitchen restaurant located in the north of England, customers who do not want to drink alcohol now can ask for a bottle of water to accompany their meals, reports CNN.
The water map of the establishment offers three different options of flat waters and four bright waters. This novelty was born from an idea of the Doran Binder Water Sommeller, who approached the owners of the meals, Joseph Rawlins and Gaëlle Radigon, offering them a tasting.
Water bottles that cost up to 22 euros
The Goran Binder water sommelier has chosen the waters of the Popote map by selecting varieties from the United Kingdom, France, Spain and Portugal. The cheapest bottle costs five pounds, or around 5.80 euros, and the most expensive appears in 19 pounds, a price equivalent to almost 22 euros.
The taste of these waters comes from the minerals they contain, says the sommel water. To try them as well as possible, recommend serving them at room temperature with ice cubes and a lemon portion. “Water is like wine, if it is too cold, it kills flavors,” says Doran Binder.
According to him, this novelty satisfies the demand of customers who drink less and less alcohol and can allow restaurants to obtain new money. At the moment, food is the only restaurant in England that offers a water map, according to Doran Binder, and even one of the only ones in the world.
The British increasingly centered on alcohol
British drink less and less alcohol less and less. They drink in total 22% of alcohol less than 20 years ago and this decrease in consumption has even brought to the closing of a quarter of pubs in the country.
