$ 19 billion in renewable energy projects canceled since the beginning of Donald Trump’s mandate

These budget cuts led to a wave of bankruptcies in the renewable energy sector. Eleven companies in the sector have declared bankruptcy, according to Bankrupcydata, a data aggregator.

Several renewable energy projects, for a total value of $ 18.6 billion, have been canceled since the beginning of the mandate of Donald Trump, according to the Clean Atlas Policy Economy tracker, reports The Financial Times, Friday, August 22.

The US President has eliminated tax credits, subsidies and loans for renewable energies granted by the Biden Administration. Obtaining authorizations for wind and solar projects has also become more difficult and restrictions have been imposed on companies whose supply chains are dominated by China.

These budget cuts led to a wave of bankruptcies in the renewable energy sector. Eleven companies in the sector have declared bankruptcy, according to Bankrupcydata, a data aggregator.

Renewable energies to feed the AI

However, given the energy problems to meet the demand created by artificial intelligence, renewable energies have several advantages in their favor. “Renewable energies can be built and connected in a year or two, while respecting the deadlines of data centers,” said Adit Arun, an energy policy analyst at the center of public companies.

In addition, investment ads fell by almost 20 %, with only $ 15.8 billion announced in 2025, compared to $ 20.9 billion in 2024. The Secretary of Energy, Chris Wright, criticized renewable energies, calling them “network parasites.” His ministry reduced subsidies at $ 8.7 billion, while $ 8.5 billion in loans have been eliminated.
