The negotiations between the American aeronautical manufacturer Boeing and the local branch of the Machinery Union (IAM-District 837), which represents the approximately 3,200 strike workers since the beginning of August, resumed this Monday, August 25 after three weeks of silence, the two parties said.
A union spokesman said that the restart of discussions was scheduled from the 10 am premises
This is the first time that the two parties have resumed their negotiations since the beginning of the work strike on August 4, the day after the rejection of the members of the International Machinist Association and Aerospace Workers (IAM) of the new Social Agreement proposed by Boeing.
F-15 and F-18 production sites in question
This movement affects the Boeing sites in St. Louis and St. Charles in Missouri, and Mascautah in Illinois, where F-15 and F-18 combat planes are manufactured, the Red Hawk T-7 pilot training system, as well as the Drone MQ-25. The president of IAM, Brian Bryant, had visited a strike participation on Thursday.
“Our members are the backbone of Boeing’s defense activities and deserve a social agreement that corresponds to their skills, their sacrifices and their dedication,” he said.
The union requires fair remuneration, with salaries corresponding to the cost of living, as well as a “contract that respects antiquity and experience.”
40% increase in salaries
For its part, Boeing states that its offer provides an average increase in salaries by 40%, as well as more paid licenses and disease days.
A strike of approximately 33,000 workers, also unionized with IAM, paralyzed for almost fifty days in the autumn of 2024 the production of the two main commercial aircraft factories of Boeing, located in the northwest of the United States.
They obtained significantly a salary increase of 38% during the four years of the social agreement, the restoration of an annual bonus (4% of the annual salary), an increase in the ratification bonus (from 3,000 to 12,000 dollars) and the contribution to the retirement plan for capitalization.
This movement had strongly affected the group’s finances. But he described the one in the process of “managing” and having prepared it before employees even joined the strikes. Since the beginning of the year, the Boeing Defense, Espace and Security (BDS) branch has delivered 62 airplanes, including four copies of F-5 and nine of the F/A-18.
