“Unfortunately, it’s bis repetite”: bosses fear the economic consequences of a new fall in government

The last speech of the Prime Minister reinforced the concerns of the bosses. If business leaders share the observation of the danger of excessive invention of France, they fear new economic repercussions linked to the country’s political instability.

He went for a period of fog. And companies would have gone well. And for a good reason, the perspective of a fall in the government of François Bayrou, after a vote of distrust of parliamentarians on September 8, revives their concerns in an economic context that already cares about many sectors of activity, in particular trade.

“We share the observation of excessive exaggeration, but it is above all the political instability that feeds the concern. The consumption is of mast medium, the industry is paid for customs tasks, there is a lack of visibility such as last year when the budget was voted in February,” said BFM Business Éric Chevée, vice president of the Confederation of small and medium enterprises (CPC).

Electoral terms do nothing

However, the next electoral deadlines, with the municipal elections in 2026 and especially the presidential elections in 2027, this member member feared a political instability that could last if the government of François Bayrou falls. Because then it would be necessary, and again, compose a new ministerial team with the head, a new tenant in Matignon, something far from being obvious during this period.

“We can see very well that the economic rationality of the State and the situation of France, replace political calculations because we enter something that is J-2 years compared to the presidential elections and all begin to say themselves ‘if I do not show my political courage to oppose, I will not exist on stage,’ he raised Dominique Carlac’h.

The president of Medef, Patrick Martin, also supported François Bayrou, considering, in an interview with Echothat the prime minister “was right to alert the danger of the situation of public finances. He considers that” there is no credible alternative proposal for that of the current government. “After Barnier, Bayrou was, but after Bayrou, who else? And then, will we move towards a resignation of the president? But who to take charge? If we arrive there, the successor of President Macron, after a year and a half years. “Michel Picon adds (U2P).

The bosses fear social movements

In addition, political instability also causes social movements. The unions will meet on Friday, August 29, at the headquarters of the CFDT, to organize and raise their tone against the government that calls them to negotiate another time in the unemployment insurance agreement. And Internet users have been asking for several weeks to “block everything” on September 10.

“I still wonder if the prime minister, when choosing the date of September 8 for the vote of confidence, did not try somewhere disagree with the dispute,” assumes that Michel Picon (U2P). “In the economic situation in which we are, if we add to that social movement that blocks the country, it is frankly the disaster, the billing will not be done, it will be the employees who will be fired or that will not be recruited,” he fears. “The yellow vests are still very present in the minds of the merchants,” he adds.

Called to a massive reform of public spending

The bosses also complain about rumors that they would benefit from too many state help to carry out their activity. “In 2025, companies paid 13 billion positions more than the previous year. (…) Why are we helping them? Because companies in France are those that pay the world with the greatest amount of social contributions. These are not help or gifts, these are lightened that allow them to breathe,” said Dominique Carnac’h in the good -morning business set.

For its part, Éric Chevée (CPME) demands a significant reduction in public spending from state and local authorities: “We cannot ask companies and employees to make efforts without a massive reform of public expenses,” he presses. “The State and communities must be tightened by the belt.”
