1.5 million less officials, retired for capitalization … MEDEF reveals its proposals

The “Economic Front” gathered by the main main organization presented 35 proposals to improve a political debate considered “picrocholina”.

The “Economic Front” initiated by Medef, and composed of an alliance of economists and business leaders, presented 35 proposals on Friday, August 29, that President Patrick Martin expected them to inspire the political debate.

One hundred people, who share a pro-negocio vision of the economy, have worked since October in seven thematic groups, on production, employment and public finance.

Its often concrete proposals are also very varied. The Medef, which has just returned, suggests in particular considerably limit the weight of the State by reducing the number of “1.5 million” officials, eliminating 20,000 local authorities or limiting the number of ministers to 23.

Pivot and capitalization age

The “Economic Front” also presses a new pension reform, to “work up to 64 years or more”, with the introduction of a variable axis and the capitalization age to improve the pension of retirees.

Its members also advocate a “tax shock” in favor of companies that consist of reducing production taxes in exchange for the abolition of aid that is considered ineffective. Or, in another registry, to train retirees to support the nursery staff, to guarantee the places of reception for families.

The Economic Front also recommends training 50,000 additional scientists, engineers or technicians every year, or increase to 500,000 annual housing constructions.

Finally they are favorable for the signing of the Mercosur Treaty, “otherwise, someone will sign for you, China,” said economist Emmanuel Combe when presenting the report to the press.

Debate “picrocholin”

Patrick Martin wanted Friday that this work “is not an exercise in the room.”

The “Economic Front” had been launched following the early legislative elections in June with economist Philippe Aghion. Patrick Martin explained that he had felt “a form of resentment” before the electoral campaign, “important” subjects have not been taken into account or from an insufficiently worked and relevant angle.

Invited this year for the second time to the Fête de l’Manité, it seems to find a much more useful job among social partners, including unions.

On Thursday to meet the entrepreneurs of France, Medef’s summer event, Mr. Martin “reiterated to all the interlocutors of the Union (SA) to work together”, on the financing of social protection, the productive model or “on the main challenges of digital, climate and demography.”

“Convergences can arise between us, because we are both in direct contact with the realities on the ground!” He said.
