The Trump administration confiscated the Supreme Court to govern on customs tasks

Known by the Trump Administration, the Supreme Court must decide before September 10 about the examination of established customs tasks, to judge its legality.

Donald Trump’s administration confiscated the Supreme Court on Wednesday to quickly decide a large part of the customs duties that he has established since his return to the White House, but that an appeal court considered it illegal.

When he saw a large part of the commercial offensive in the heart of his second term, the US president had warned that he intended to seize the highest American body, whose conservative majority cemented, for an “accelerated procedure.”

In his motion, he asks the Supreme Court in the Summar Procedures, the legal advisor of the Government, John Sauer, asked him to decide before September 10 if he intends to examine the archive and, if necessary, to celebrate hearings in early November.

The document is concerned about the harmful effects on commercial negotiations led by Washington of the decision that was issued on Friday by a federal appeal court. The latter judged that Donald Trump did not have the power to establish a large part of the tax on imported products that he has implemented since his return to power in January.

However, these customs duties remain in force, the time for the Supreme Court to examine the case.

The White House accused the judges of having made this decision for political reasons, adding the decision.

Pressure lever

From his return to power in January, Donald Trump has implemented, in several waves, a new surcharge in products that enter the United States. These vary from 10 to 50% depending on situations and countries.

These are these customs tasks, different from those that surprise in particular sectors (automotive, steel, aluminum, copper), which are in the heart of the legal conflict.

The case was examined for the first time by the United States International Commercial Court (ITC) that he had estimated at the end of May that Donald Trump had superimposed his powers by imposing an un directed surcharge, after complaints presented by several democratic states and a coalition of small businesses.

Donald Trump repeated on Friday to say that putting an end to customs tasks “would be a complete disaster for the country”, which would be “destroyed.”

The government is particularly concerned with losing an important pressure lever in its commercial partners. The fear of exorbitant customs tasks has pushed many of them, including the European Union, to refrain from reprisals and open its market more to US products.

The Minister of Finance, Scott Besent, had estimated that a suspension of customs duties would place the United States in a “shameful and dangerous situation at the diplomatic level.”
