An 8% drop in the number of travelers compared to 2024: travel companies show their disappointment after “a Mooribonde summer season”

According to the last observatory of the sector, the number of reserve files (packages or accommodation alone) decreased by 8% this summer for a year, including -10% in August. All destinations are affected and some collapses, such as Morocco.

The conjunction of negative factors seems to have clearly heavy in the wishes of the French trip this summer. Among the political and geopolitical uncertainty, the fall in purchasing power and the increase in prices, this summer of 2025 was not good for EDV, the organization of the representation of travel companies in France. According to the latest Edv-Orchestra observatory, the number of files (one or more travelers who have a reserved global sum or simply accommodation) decreased by 8.2% compared to summer 2024.

All areas are affected. Long distance significantly decreases with 16% less files. “Although the average basket increases considerably (+13%), translating a clear increase in prices, this development is not sufficient to compensate for the fall in demand: the volume of business fell even more than -5%,” says the observatory. The Middle Courrier is a bit better with a business volume in -7%and a decrease in the number of files in -9%, despite an average basket of more +3%.

-31% for the Dominican Republic, -21% for Morocco

Traditional destinations have suffered: Spain and Greece are in net decrease in the number of files (-12 and -11% for a year). The same trend for Morocco (-21%), Tunisia (-11%) or Italy (-5%). The emblematic destinations of long hair are also withdrawn: United States (-7%), Mauricio and even more the Dominican Republic (-31%). However, some destinations such as Egypt, Canada and the Netherlands have increased. France is resistant, the backlight number of 5%, while the increase in the average basket (+2%) limits the fall in the business volume (-4%).

In general, the average basket increases slightly (+2%, to 2,093 euros) “, but this development does not compensate for the decrease in the number of departures,” says the businesses of the trip.

“The summer of 2025 was marked by a decrease in exits, particularly in August. This development reflects a subsequent purchase behavior and more sensitive to the issue of purchasing purchasing power by travelers,” says Valérie Boned, president of travel companies. On the back of the rear season, it is not really better since the sector observes to date exit forecasts in September 6% compared to 2024, with a stronger impact on long reach (-15%).
