Faced with the dispute of car manufacturers, 150 companies ask Brussels not to “support” the objective of 100% electric sales in 2035

The 2035 prohibition of the sale of new gas or diesel cars, including hybrids, in the EU, has been disputed for several months by manufacturers.

More than 150 companies: electric vehicle manufacturers, battery manufacturers or load operators, call on Monday in an open letter, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen

The letter is signed by electric car manufacturers (Volvo, Polestar), battery manufacturers installed in Europe (Verkor, Samsung, LG Energy), load operators (accelerated, ionity, alpitrónico), material suppliers (Talga, Orano, Rock Tech Lithium) or even network administrators (Iberdrola, EDP). They urge the European Commission to carry out “more daring actions to ensure the position of industrial leader in Europe” in the field of electric mobility.

“Not realistic” for Stellantis

Therefore, they ask Europe, which made a first inventory of the objective of the zero problem in 2026, to present “a more daring and coordinated strategy”, in particular to “develop the production of batteries and safe raw materials.” They also offer incentives for “intelligent and coherent purchase between member states.”
