French industrial production fell 1.1% in July, after the same trend as the manufacturing industry (-1.7%), affected by a fall in aeronautical and spatial construction, said Insee. Analysts interviewed by Reuters took advantage of an average drop of 1.5% from one month to another in July. This withdrawal follows a strong rebound in industrial production (+3.7%) and manufacturing (+3.5%) observed in June, said the National Statistics Institute.
For a month, manufacturing production suffered the decrease in transport equipment (-10.7% after +16.3% in June), particularly aeronautical and spatial construction “as a result of a production peak in June,” Insee said in a press release.
Always increasing more than a year
Production also decreases in the manufacture of electrical, electronic and computer equipment (-2.2%) and the food industry (-1.3%). On the other hand, it continued to increase in cokéfaction and refining (+2.5%after+21.0%), extractive industries, energy, water (+1.6%) and other industrial products (textiles, metallurgy, chemistry, pharmacy, etc.) (+1.0%). In construction, production was recovered by 0.6% in July compared to June (-0.2%), in specialized construction and buildings, but in civil engineering.
For a year, industrial production (+0.8%) and manufacturing (+1.3%) were recorded during the three months of May to July, compared to the same period in 2024, driven by the manufacture of transport equipment (+10.5%). Even more than a year, construction has dropped 3.6% between May and July compared to the same period of the previous year.
