This is a great first in France. Flunch opened a new fast food concept on Monday, September 15 in Lille on Monday, September 15. The great originality is that there is no cash register. As LSA Media reports, Fluch uses the technology developed by Amazon “Just Walk out”.
The restaurant is equipped with a hundred cameras, capable of recognizing whether the client has chosen a sandwich, a salad, a hot dish and/or a drink. When leaving, the customer only has to present his bank card in the TPE, he is automatically recognized and he is debited for the amount of his purchases.
“We met Amazon officials two years ago in the United States to offer this new concept to our clients,” said Baptiste Bayart, CEO of Flunch In Lsa.
A Amazon -abandoned technology
This is the first time that this technology has been used in France. It was first deployed in the United States in 2018 at Amazon stores. But it has never really been imposed as an essential model in supermarkets.
So much so that even Amazon decided to abandon technology. The American company announced in 2024 that the “Just Walk out” system would no longer be implemented in future Amazon Fresh Mini markets, and would even uninstall in the group stores where it is present in the United States, replaced by connected caddies.
But the latest version of “Just Walk out” incorporates artificial intelligence and, therefore, only requires that the images be seen by the workers.
