On the eve of a day that must see France recognize the Palestinian State, Emmanuel Macron requests the release of the hostages retained by Hamas in Gaza to consider the opening of an embassy in Palestine.
Its launch “is a clear condition before opening an embassy,” said the head of the English state in an interview recorded Thursday and broadcast this Sunday, September 21 on the US CBS channel.
France must officially recognize the Palestinian State, with another ten countries, at a summit on Monday at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
Questioned by the journalist of the “Face the Nation” program about the fact that he did not make the launch of the hostages a condition of this recognition, he replied: “It will be, for us, a clear condition before opening, for example, an embassy in Palestine.”
“This condition is the first of a series of previous requirements that we will defend within the peace process. But we are going on September 22 (September, Monday) to announce this recognition of a Palestinian State,” the French president replied in an exclusive interview with an American channel.
Even before this summit, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia officially recognized the Palestinian State on Sunday.
Emmanuel Macron, who says he wants to “isolate” Hamas, attacks Israeli operations in Gaza.
“What is happening is that, de facto, there are many civilians who are killed, and the project is to move people. So I think it’s a big mistake,” he said Thursday in CBS.
He also denounced the “madness” of a possible plan that would aim to evacuate all the Palestinians of the Gaza Strip before the reconstruction of the Palestinian territory. “We cannot, implicitly or explicitly, be convenient with that project,” Macron said.
