A month after the controversy between the United States ambassador to France and Paris, Emmanuel Macron does not take off against the diplomat. In an interview with the American CBS channel recorded Thursday and broadcast this Sunday, September 21, the President of the Republic described Charles Kushner’s criticism as “unacceptable.”
At the end of August, the American ambassador to France, also Jared Kushner’s father, son of Donald Trump, denounced the “sufficient lack of sufficient action” of the French government against semitism in a letter addressed to the President of the Republic and published by the Wall Street Journal.
In CBS, Emmanuel Macron said he considered that this letter was a “error” and an “unacceptable statement by someone who is supposed to be diplomatic.”
“If you are a diplomat, you must respect the rules of diplomacy,” he insisted on the head of state with CBS. “The taxpayer taxpayer (American) is not used correctly if it is to finance this type of statements.”
Critics who had followed those of Netanyahu
In response to the Charles Kushner letter, Paris had summoned the United States ambassador and “firmly refuted these accusations” against international law, in particular the duty not to interfere with the internal affairs of the States, provided by the 1961 Vienna Convention that governs diplomatic relations. “
The controversy had intervened a few days after a violent burden by the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against the French president, whom he had accused of “feeding the anti -Semitic fire” by requesting international recognition of the state of Palestine.
France is part of a dozen countries that must confirm their formal recognition of the Palestinian State this Monday, September 22, on the eve of the United Nations General Assembly and despite the opposition of the United States and Israel.
While the Hebrew State has intensified its offensive in Gaza, “recognizing today the Palestinian State is the only way to bring a political solution to a situation that must be stopped,” said Emmanuel Macron.
