The Ajaccio prosecutor’s office opened an investigation “against X” for “endangering the lives of others” after an air controller fell asleep on Monday, forcing a plane to wait in the air before landing.
HAS The continuation of the incident “with respect to the Paris Ajaccio air rotation at the end of Monday, and in parallel with the opening of an investigation by the services of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC),” the Prosecutor’s Office decided to open this survey and trust the Gendarmerie Air Transport of Ajaccio Brigade, he said on Thursday, September 18.
On Monday, an air controller in Corsica fell asleep, causing the wait in the air of an airplane for almost twenty minutes, according to the DGAC.
“The plane waited 18 minutes”
“The plane waited 18 minutes, turning in the air, on the Gulf of Ajaccio,” said the DGAC. This “unusual situation” caused an intervention, in particular the rescue services of the airport, he added.
“The intervention of aerodrome firefighters in the control tower made it possible to discover that the service controller had fallen asleep in his position,” said the organization.
The air controller was proven negative in the alcohol test, he said, adding that “the possible sanction was under study.” When the controller woke up, “the flight landed safely under the conditions provided” and “the operations could normally resume,” the DGAC reassured.
