Berlin and Madrid “want to try to reach a solution at the end of 2025” in the European Fighter aircraft project of the future SCAF, said Friedrich Merz on Thursday at a press conference with Pedro Sánchez.
“We share the same opinion: the current situation is not satisfactory. We do not advance in this project,” said the German chancellor along with his Spanish counterpart in Madrid.
“Spain’s interest in this project is sincere”
Released in 2017 by Berlin and Paris, later attached to Madrid, the SCAF, the largest defense project in Europe that is supposed to strengthen the strategic autonomy of the continent, no longer advances due to the tensions between the French manufacturer Dassault and the European Group Airbus, which represents in this file the interests of Berlin and Madrid.
Pedro Sánchez perfectly considered the statement of the German Foreign Minister in the SCAF. “The interest of Spain in this project is sincere. It is total, but in fact, with the conditions that the three countries, Germany, France and Spain, had established in advance,” he said.
