First scheduled for May in September, the transition to 100% digital shipping cards in Ryanair is finally scheduled for November 12, a date chosen to enjoy a “quieter period after medium -sized holidays” and, therefore, allows a softer transition.
“The transition to digital shipping cards will provide our customers with a faster, more intelligent, ecological and simplified experience through our” Myryanair “application, where passengers can also benefit from useful characteristics, such as the headquarters and live flight information.” Comments Dara Brady, Marketing Director at Ryanair.
“In case of interruption, the application will allow passengers to receive real -time updates directly from our operations control center, access flight alternatives, as well as transfer or accommodation solutions if necessary,” explains the company.
80% of customers already use the dematerialized card
It will not be a great agitation for the company’s annual customers, since, according to him, almost 80% of them already use the digital sesame format. This “is in line with other key ticket sectors (festivals, music, sporting events) that have successful the sale of exclusively digital tickets,” continues the operator.
The paper card is still appreciated by certain populations such as the elderly, the awkward internet and those who do not have smartphones.
But for the head of the media of the company Michael O’Leary, the wave of progress cannot be bothered with these cases. “The clients who want a role are the same as those who, when we went to the Internet, did not want to change, but then they were the first to go to the Internet to get cheaper plane tickets.”
Ryanair also highlights the ecological argument since dematerialization will allow you to save more than 300 tons of paper per year. But also the operating costs, an important point given the very restricted economic model of the company.
However, digital technology has its limits. What will happen if the passenger smartphone no longer has a battery or if it has been lost or stolen before boarding? “If your battery is dead, we have your seat and passport and we can record at the boarding doors for the moment. Once we have the name and passport, that is good, but they will all be in the application,” says the CEO.
