The Medef is delighted with the “priority” given to the reduction of expenses, but distrustful of the “unknowns” that still weigh on the budget

The Medef chief reacts to the interview given by Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu and says he is satisfied with the priority given to the reduction of public spending.

The president of Medef, Patrick Martin, was delighted on Friday of “priority” that Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu seems to grant the reduction of public spending in the interview he gave to the Parisian.

However, it orders “the Prime Minister and the Parliament to take into account the economic situation” in future decisions, which implies that he fears an increase in taxes on companies. And confirms when the celebration of an employers rally on October 13 and announces the place, the Accor Arena room in Bercy.

He points out that “all countries foster their companies and investors: they do not make the opposite determination of growth, employment, investment and purchasing power,” he asks.

According to him, “there are still many unknowns about what the Finance Law will constitute, but I invite the Prime Minister and the Parliament to take into account the increasingly tense economic situation and an increasingly animated international competition in arbitrations and future debates,” he continues.

The MEDEF has completely opposed in recent weeks a total increase in mandatory encumbrances on companies in the 2026 budget, as well as the establishment of a Zucman tax that consists of leaving a minimum of 2% of the wealth of 1,800 taxpayers every year.

However, in its interview, Sébastien Lecornu announces that it will offer “a decrease of six billion euros in the state and its lifestyle” next year, but also emphasizes that it will be “in Parliament at the end decide” the debate on fiscal justice.
