The United States faced the risk of “closing”: Republicans and Democrats have until Tuesday to avoid budgetary paralysis

If the elected representatives of Republicans and Democrats do not find commitment to the budget, a large part of federal services will stop, with particular hundreds of thousands of unemployed technical officials.

Several US elected officials said they were “open to the discussion” on Sunday on the eve of a meeting between the democratic opposition and Donald Trump to avoid budgetary paralysis. The Congress has until Tuesday to adopt a budget, even temporary, and thus avoid a “closure”, a paralysis of the federal state. Donald Trump is “open to the discussion” and “wants to act in good faith,” he told the Republican president of the lower room, Mike Johnson, on Sunday, September 28 on the Fox News channel.

However, the latter did not explicitly respond to the issue of whether negotiations between the two parties, currently participated in a confrontation, will take place in the meeting scheduled for Monday. The Republican president already canceled a first meeting with the democratic opposition that should have been held last week.

Looking for a “bipartisan common land”

“We want to find a bipartisan agreement (…) that really meets the needs of the US people of health, security and economic well -being,” said Hakeem Jeffries, head of the Democratic minority in the House of Representatives.

Republicans have the majority in the two Congress cameras, but due to the regulations of the Senate, Donald Trump’s party must negotiate with Democrats to obtain at least seven of their votes. Democrats, in particular, demand that Republicans restore hundreds of billions of dollars in health expenses. The conservatives, on the other hand, argue that their expenses plan for seven weeks, financing the government until the end of November, is the only one on the table.

The United States put up legs in case of “off”

In March, when the threat of “closing” was already around, the Republicans had refused to initiate dialogue with the Democrats in large budget cuts and the dismissal of thousands of public officials. Ten Democratic senators, including Chuck Schumer, had reluctant to vote for the text of the Republicans, to avoid the paralysis of the federal state.

A “closure” would mean that a large part of federal services will stop, with hundreds of thousands of unemployed technical officials, annoying air traffic, but also strong disturbances in the payment of social assistance. According to the American press, the White House provides mass and permanent dismissals in government agencies if Congress cannot vote a budget before September 30.
