The Arlanxeo rubber producer announced his intention to close his place in Port-Jérôme (Sena-Marítima) where 165 jobs are threatened, we learned from concordant sources on Friday.
Arlanxeo Management Elastomères France announced in a press release its project to stop its activities in Port-Jérôme and has launched a period of information and consultation.
“The European chemical industry continues to deal with low persistent demand and a decrease in competitiveness, under the effect of the increase in costs, the imbalance in global markets and the increase in regulatory pressure,” said the CEO of Arlanxeo Stephan Van Santbrink, cited in the press release.
Subsidiary of the Saudi Aramco giant
Arlanxeo is, according to his official communication, “one of the world leaders in the synthetic rubber sector”, present in ten production sites in eight countries.
100% subsidiary of the Saudi Producer of Energy of Energy and Saudi of Aramco Chemicals, its main activity is the manufacture of synthetic rubber for automotive and tire industries, construction, oil and gas.
It is a “human and social shock” according to a press release signed by two deputies of the department (Renaissance and PS) and local elected officials, who see it “a new sign of the structural difficulties of European chemistry, faced with greater international competition and the growing relocation of productions to Asia, in particular China.”
