It is the daily dedication. Almost one in three assets in France is helping, that is, it provides regular and frequent help to a de -dependent loved one, according to a survey conducted by IFOP for the Macif. This situation has significant repercussions on its professional but also personal life, especially in its morals (75%), their health (64%), their leisure (71%) or their marriage life (61%).
Now among caregivers, some are also health professionals. The study decided to focus on this category, particularly requested. In fact, their profession brings them precious assets in their role as a caregiver: 69% believe that their profession is an advantage.
The best position to help
In detail, they report a better understanding of pathologies (93%), communication with health professionals (92%), the anticipation of needs (89%) and the coordination of care (87%). But this experience is accompanied by some pressure. 69% feel caregivers “designated” by those around them due to their profession, strengthening responsibility for responsibilities.
This role is also extremely demanding: 68%of caregivers believe that it is “difficult” to maintain, mainly due to mental load (36%), lack of time for oneself (33%) and the sensation of isolation (15%).
Two thirds are exhausted
Because for the limitations of your profession, there is a burden of aid. 88% of caregivers have an impact on their health, including 47% of psychological disorders (stress, anxiety, depression), 41% of musculoskeletal disorders and 40% of professional exhaustion. “Being helping and working in the world of health is strengthening the perception of arduity and professional stress in an even more significant way than in other sectors of activity,” explain the authors of the study.
Exhaustion is frequent: 67% of caregivers also said that health professionals have faced there. This profession, mainly feminine, is more exposed to professional limitations, such as night work, arduity or stressful situations and tests. In fact, this “passion work” is also a qualified job as “painful” by almost 2 assets in the health sector of 3 (compared to 45% among assets in general) and even stronger for those who are also caregivers of a loved one (72% declare that their profession is painful).
Survey between 1,000 active French (in the public or private sector) of 18 years or more, including 316 caregivers and 1,000 active French (in the public or public sector) that evolve in the health sector, 18 years or more, including 272 caregivers. The respondents were interviewed through a panel from June 16 to 25, 2025. To guarantee the representativeness of the samples, the results straightened in terms of sex, age, CSP and region.
