The president of the United States, Donald Trump, announced on Monday this social platform of the truth that vehicles of heavy goods imported to the United States on Monday would be taxed up to 25% from November 1.
The measure, taken according to the White House for “National Security” problems, must support US truck manufacturers such as Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner or Mack Trucks.
Donald Trump had announced on September 26 his intention to impose customs duties in several sectors: medicines, furniture and, therefore, heavy goods vehicles.
A Decision of the Supreme Court in early November
The US president launched a noise protectionist offensive, including customs tariffs imposed according to the country or the original area of goods, not through determined taxes in accordance with the nature of imported products.
But the legality of these geographical customs rights is not established, and the American Supreme Court must decide on this issue in early November, after a federal court judged that a large part of the taxes announced in this way by the president were illegal.
At the same time, Donald Trump imposed the tasks of sectoral customs, which also affect cars, steel, aluminum or copper, with another legal basis. However, it remains to be seen how these customs duties in trucks will agree with certain existing commercial agreements, so that linking the United States in Canada and Mexico, or what is announced this summer with the European Union.
