The 2025 harvest estimates in France were checked down to reach a volume close to the already low of 2024, due in particular to the impact of the August heat wave, the Ministry of Agriculture said Tuesday. According to the estimates established on October 1, the production of French wine in 2025 would reach 36 million hectoliters, which is well below the average production of the last five years (-16%), indicates the statistical service of the Ministry.
September rains did not compensate the drought in August
This time, the heat wave and the drought of August reduced the production potential, accelerating the maturity of the grapes while blocing their increase: the result was smaller berries with less juice. September’s rains were late, they did not allow us to remedy it, explains the ministry.
Only AOP wines should progress, in 5% compared to 2024, transported by increases in Champagne, Burgundy, Val de Loire, Corsica and in the southeast. But it is still 11% lower than the average of 2020-24.
