The city of Paris announced on Monday that it has informed the prosecutor a “new homophobic and gross digital campaign” against DJ Barbara Butch, a figure of the Parisian nights, which has just trusted the artistic direction of the next Nuit Blanche.
“I want to provide all my support to Barbara Butch, victim of a new Nauseabunda cybernetic campaign for 48 hours,” wrote socialist mayor Anne Hidalgo in a statement, who appointed the artistic director of French DJ of the 25th Nuit Blanche on Wednesday in June 2026.
The prosecutor’s report is based on article 40 of the Code of Criminal Procedure on these facts “that are probably qualified as public insults of discriminatory nature and moral harassment” through social networks, details the city of Paris.
“Mass digital violence”
Figure of the Parisian nights LGBT+, Barbara Butch had already been attacked by a wave of cyber harassment after her performance during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, where she appeared on the debilly bridge over the Sena, surrounded by Drag Queens and the singer Philippe Katerine, almost naked and painted in blue.
The painting had aroused the anger of the conservative and extreme circles of the right, which interpreted it as a mocking parody of Jesus’ last meal with his apostles, the last dinner, represented by Leonardo Da Vinci, that the artistic director of the ceremony, Thomas Jolly, had refused.
The Paris Prosecutor’s Office required September 25 prison sentences with or without suspicions against five men judged in particular for “mass digital violence” having caused “an alteration of the health of Barbara Butch” and “a perfectly characterized cyberbullying”.
“Barbara Butch is Paris. They are not offended for sexists, lesbophobes, gross and anti -Semitic that hate our city and their values of equality, openness and tolerance,” begs Anne Hidalgo.
