The Biden administration has banned the sale in the United States of new telecommunications equipment by Chinese groups Huawei Technologies and ZTE for an “unacceptable risk” to the national security of the United States.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced this Friday that it has definitively adopted these new rules, which also prohibit the sale and import into the United States of equipment manufactured by Chinese specialists in the
video surveillance Dahua Technology and Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology and the telecommunications company Hytera Communications.
widespread distrust
This decision is the latest display of US distrust of Chinese “tech” giants, who fear their equipment will be used to spy on them.
“These new rules are an important part of our ongoing efforts to protect the American people from national security threats involving telecommunications,” FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel said in a statement.
Huawei declined to comment on the matter. ZTE, Dahua, Hytera and the Chinese Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Hikvision assured in a press release that its products do not threaten the national security of the United States.
