“La Poste cannot be Temu’s Trojan horse”: the Trade Alliance attacks the agreement between the Chinese site and Colissimo

The Alliance for Trade believes that the partnership between La Poste and Temu “sends a disastrous signal.”

The Trade Alliance and the Procos federation expressed their “deep misunderstanding and concern” on Thursday, October 16, and called on the government to take “strong measures” following the strengthening of the partnership between La Poste and Temu on parcel distribution.

Colissimo and Temu signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday “to strengthen their logistics collaboration and support French sellers” by facilitating their shipments, according to a statement published on Wednesday by the bazaar platform of the Chinese giant PDD Holdings.

This agreement “allows Temu to use, like any other client, a range of La Poste services, package delivery, storage or order preparation”, according to La Poste, a French public company owned 66% by the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations (CDC) and 34% by the State.

“This association facilitates Temu’s access to the French market, to the detriment of brands established in the territory and the fundamental rules of fair competition,” the Trade Alliance and the specialized professional federation Procos reacted in a joint statement. “They express their deep incomprehension and concern” and ask the government for “consistency and energetic action.”

“Double speech”

They also ask the Government, which they accuse of “double speech”, to adopt several measures: customs duties for packages of less than 150 euros, the establishment of handling fees for small packages at the European level, the reinforcement of controls and sanctions on these platforms, as well as the denunciation of the universal postal agreement that allows Chinese sellers to benefit from preferential rates.

The draft state budget for 2026 provides for a tax on small packages delivered by companies established outside the European Union, especially from China. This announcement comes in an abrasive context in France in relation to Asian e-commerce platforms, which represent 22% of the packages delivered by La Poste, but which are accused of flooding the market with discounted and non-compliant products, unfair competition, environmental pollution and undignified work.
