Secours Catholique announces the first social plan in its history

Faced with “financial limitations”, the association announces the elimination of 130 positions, that is, 14% of its staff.

Secours Catholique announced on Friday that it had presented to its employee representatives a draft social plan that provides for the elimination of 130 positions due to “financial constraints”, a first for the charity.

This “transformation project”, presented on Thursday to the social and economic committee, aims to “create a sober organization, close to actions on the ground,” the management indicates in a statement.

It adds that it has started talks on an employment protection plan that “would include, in particular, a preliminary phase of voluntary departures and would increase the number of permanent positions from 932 to 802”, that is, 130 fewer positions.

932 employees and 60,000 volunteers

It is about “getting out of a risk zone in the medium term” at a time when, “like many solidarity associations, Secours Catholique faces financial limitations that are increasingly difficult to face”, one can still read.

Created in 1946, Secours catholique, which helps the most vulnerable populations, currently has 932 employees and nearly 60,000 volunteers.

In a report published in January, the Court of Auditors estimated that the deficits in 2023, the projection of the deficit for 2024 and the increase in real estate charges should “encourage” the association “to look for ways to return to financial balance.”

The announcement of this social plan occurs in a complicated economic context for the associations that raised the alarm on October 11 to warn of their budget situation and demand support from the State.
