Gabriel Attal “in deep disagreement” with the IMF on the postponement of the reduction of taxes on production

The International Monetary Fund asks France to put an end to “whatever the cost” by delaying, in particular, the new reduction of this tax that affects companies.

In its harsh rethinking of France’s economic policy, the IMF urges the government to stop the famous “whatever the cost” by better targeting aid and delaying certain tax cuts, so as not to go deeper into the public deficit.

An accusation rejected by the Government, which believes that its latest measures are far from precisely “whatever it takes” (for example, with the 15% rise in gas and electricity in 2023 that will affect all homes). As for the tax cuts, particularly for production, it would be inconceivable according to him to postpone them.

Measure supported by LR

“If we have the lowest level of unemployment for 15 years, it is precisely because we have lowered the taxes on production that weighed on the industry. Two years ago, these taxes were 7 times higher than in Germany”, which raises the question of attractiveness, stresses the minister. “We started lowering them, now they are 4 times higher than in Germany.”

Remember that in your finance bill for 2023the government has planned the abolition of the company value added tax (CVAE) in two years, compensated with a fraction of the VAT.

“A support measure for our industry”, which “will also allow us to obtain 0.7 points of GDP”, explained Gabriel Attal a few months ago, stressing that “75% of the profits will go to SMEs and ETI”.

Problem, a few days ago, the Senate finally rejected the article by show of hands, under pressure from centrist elected officials.

However, the text had received the support of the Republicans: “The LR senators regret that a majority of senators from different groups voted against the abolition of the CVAE”, the group reacted in a press release, judging “indispensable “the continuation of the reduction. of production taxes. Therefore, the article will have to go back to the National Assembly.
