The “251st French fortune lacks patriotism”: Olivier Faure attacks this boss who repatriated all his production to France but who threatens to leave the country in the event of a Zucman tax

Philippe Véran, co-founder and president of Biotech Dental, declares himself willing to sell his company and leave France if the Zucman tax is introduced. A scandalous reaction for Olivier Faure, who asks the rich to ask themselves what they can do “to serve their country.”

“It’s not normal for us to have this kind of thinking.” Guest on RMC and BFMTV this Friday, Olivier Faure criticized the reactions of some businessmen who threaten to leave France in the event of the adoption of the Zucman tax, which will be put to a vote in the National Assembly in the afternoon.

This is in particular the case of Philippe Véran, co-founder and president of Biotech Dental, a manufacturer of dental implants and prostheses located in Salon-de-Provence (Bouches-du-Rhône).

If the tax that establishes a minimum tax of 2% on assets exceeding 100 million euros were applied, “I would sell and leave, do something else somewhere else,” he told BFMTV, estimating that he would have to pay 2% of the 600 million euros that correspond to the value of his professional assets.

“Lack of patriotism”

“It’s not 12 million more. Or it means that he doesn’t pay any taxes and therefore has optimized so much that it is a real scandal,” replied Olivier Faure. On the other hand, if “you already pay 10 million, in this case we will ask for 2 million more because it is a differential tax, a minimum tax,” continued the head of the Socialist Party.

However, the businessman repatriated his production from the United States to France at the beginning of 2025, in the middle of the trade war with the United States.

“It is still crazy to have people so rich who say ‘I can’t pay’. We are going to tell a retiree, someone who has worked all his life to enrich this country: ‘Your pension is going to be frozen’ and you, who is among the 500 richest people in France, who has seen your assets double in eight years, simply say ‘You can’t ask me for more,'” insisted Olivier Faure.

The head of the PS thus called Philippe Véran “a form of patriotism”, ensuring “that we do not want to steal from him, we simply want him to get rich a little less quickly and that the money that he does not pay today, others do not have to pay.” “We should all say together ‘What can I do to serve my country and what can I do for those who have nothing?'” concluded Olivier Faure.
