In Poitiers, this Halloween Friday, two demonstrations are expected, in the same place, at 7:30 p.m. on the Place d’Armes, in front of the town hall. The first, an operation to fight against basins, mega or smaller, organized by the collective Bassines non merci 86 (BNM86); The second, as a reaction to the first, responds to the call of agrarian organizations. Both were announced on social networks.
“We have planned a festive demonstration to celebrate that our fight is bearing fruit, with the announced abandonment of the 41 mega-basins, but it is a new stage, we fear an avalanche of smaller basins,” hydrologist Anne-Morwenn Patier, a member of Bassines Non Merci 86, explains to Here. But without declaring it, the rally against the basins was prohibited by the Vienna prefecture.
For their part, the farmers immediately launched a response. Sector organizations announced on Facebook that they would meet for a “candy distribution” on the Place d’Armes in Poitiers at 7:30 p.m. But unlike BNM 86, agricultural organizations, including the FNSEA, the rural coordination and the chamber of agriculture, declared the meeting in the prefecture.
Locate the anti-basins
The previous day, calls for demonstrations largely provoked reaction from both sides. On the part of environmental activists, the goal is above all to inform citizens about the watersheds. “The prefect mentioned, for example, two projects presented; the objective is for people to inform themselves in the municipalities where they are, for whom and for what cultures,” explains Anne-Morwenn Patier.
On the other hand, agrarian organizations asked to persecute “the anti-basins.” And to specify: “Halloween night will be your hunger, the vampires of agriculture must return to their graves.”
Within the BNM 86 movement, we deplore a somewhat violent message. Hugo, a goat breeder, surprises Ici that these calls come “from organizations that fulfill public service missions, such as the Chamber of Agriculture. For us, the event is intended to be festive, with costumes and distribution of sweets to raise awareness among the population. It will turn out well.”
