Gabriel Zucman intends to continue defending his tax on great wealth. Questioned by Cà vous shortly after the deputies’ rejection of the 2% minimum tax on assets of more than 100 million euros, the economist declared himself convinced that this system “will eventually see the light.”
According to him, this is only the “beginning of the work that we will have to do in terms of explanation, pedagogy, citizen appropriation of knowledge because there is a large majority of the population in favor of this system.”
The Socialist Party asks the Government for other fiscal measures
Within the framework of the examination of the 2026 finance bill, deputies this Friday rejected the Zucman tax defended by the left as well as its “light” version proposed by the socialists. This provided for a 3% tax from 10 million euros, but excluding innovative and family companies, unlike the original version.
Recognizing that the Zucman tax had little chance of being adopted, Olivier Faure this Friday asked the Government for fiscal measures to “raise the billions we need” from billionaires and not from the working classes. The head of the PS suggested two paths: the return to the Solidarity Tax on Wealth (ISF) abolished in 2017 and a modification of the “Dutreil niche”, used by certain large fortunes to reduce inheritance taxes.
