With a demand that has logically been decreasing over the months and especially since July 31, the date on which the mask ceased to be mandatory, there are only about fifteen mask companies left in France.
In a letter sent on November 3 to the President of the Republic and the Government, the union of French mask manufacturers (F2M) warned “about the complicated situation” of the French industry. In particular, he called for sanctions against public establishments that do not respect the European preference clause for their supply.
The end of “Made in France”?
However, according to him, a mask made in China costs twice as much as one made in France.
At the height of the Covid crisis, in March 2020, the sector was developing in France. Factories were flourishing, producing 100 million masks a week. When visiting one of them, Emmanuel Macron himself defended the “Made in France”.
At the end of 2021, a circular sent to all regional health authorities gave instructions for the purchase of sanitary products such as protective masks and gloves. With, in particular, the introduction of a European preference clause for suppliers.
Therefore, manufacturers demand sanctions against establishments that do not follow these instructions.
