Renault and Airbus have signed a research and development agreement to design a robust battery for electric cars and future hybrid aircraft, Le Parisien reported Tuesday on its website.
Citing Sabine Klauke, Airbus’ engineering director, and Gilles Le Borgne, her Renault Group counterpart, Le Parisien specifies that the aircraft manufacturer and the automaker will share their knowledge of electrification and have their engineers work together to build a solid battery. It is supposed to save cost and weight, while also having a higher capacity.
Renault and Airbus hope to achieve an operational product by 2030-2035, but no industrial partnership has yet been decided for the possible production of these next-generation batteries, Le Parisien writes.
