The French manufacturer of railway material thus announced on Friday the signing of a new order with Irish Rail for the delivery of 18 additional electric trains with X’trapolis batteries, as well as a fifteen-year extension of the technical assistance and spare parts supply agreement. parts. Total amount of the contract: 160 million euros.
The aim is to strengthen the busiest commuter line in Ireland. This additional order will be on top of the initial firm order for 19 trains placed in 2021. In total, Irish Rail’s order now stands for 37 five-car trains.
Ireland wants to double rail transport capacity
“This new order for X’trapolis trains marks Irish Rail’s intention to rapidly transition to the green network of Greater Dublin, Ireland’s most populous suburban area, which will be the first step in this national transformation,” said Nick Crossfield, Director Alstom General. in the UK and Ireland.
In addition to this fleet, Alstom will provide a series of service solutions, including a contract for technical support and supply of spare parts for the first fifteen years of fleet operation, the deployment of its technologies for predictive maintenance, and the supply of three train simulators for driver training.
These purchases are part of the DART+ programme, whose objective is to double the capacity of rail transport and triple the electrification of the network in the Greater Dublin region.
