US subsidies: Von der Leyen asks the EU to react to the “distortions” of competition

Faced with the great US climate plan, the president of the European executive wants the EU to be able to “adjust (its) own rules to facilitate public investment in the environmental transition.”

The EU must take “rebalancing” measures to iron out the “distortions” of competition caused by the massive US subsidies from Joe Biden’s great climate plan (IRA), estimated this Sunday the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

As we “work with the United States to resolve the most problematic aspects” of his plan, “we must adjust our own rules to facilitate public investment in the (environmental) transition and we must reassess the need for European funding,” he said in a speech at the College of Europe in Bruges (Belgium).
