The EU prohibits the import of deforestation products

Many products such as cocoa, soya, palm oil or timber can no longer be imported into the EU if their production has contributed to deforestation.

The European Parliament and the member states of the EU reached an agreement on Tuesday to prohibit the importation into the European Union of various products, such as cocoa, coffee or soybeans, when they contribute to deforestation.

Palm oil, timber, beef and rubber are also involved, as well as various associated materials (leather, chocolate, furniture, paper, coal, etc.). Their import will be banned if these products come from land deforested after December 2020, Parliament said in a statement.
