Regular situation or a ship of perdition? A Russian submarine seen outside the Strait of Gibraltar

A telegram channel near Russian information reports the failure of a submarine against Gibraltar. However, authorities and specialists require caution.

He was seen in Gibraltar this Friday, September 26. A Russian submarine, the Novalossiisk, was photographed while on the surface and was visible from the coast. A fairly unusual situation.

According to open source intelligence sources, as well as the Russian telegram telegram of the Vladimir Putin Czeka-Ogupu regime, the Novalossiisk has great difficulties due to important technical problems. Cheka-Ogupu says that a fuel leak has been detected and that the crew could not master it.

“There are no spare parts or qualified specialists on board and the crew cannot repair breakdown,” can be read in this chain, which adds that “the crew has no choice but to drain the cellar,” otherwise, the submarine would risk the explosion.

If the Novalossiisk is closely monitored by NATO forces, it is for the moment impossible to verify this information and the specialists are asking for caution. “At the moment we have not detected, for example, the rejection of diesel on the surface,” illustrates in this regard to Jean-Louis Vichot, former commander of Submarine.

“And he sank this weekend, so if he sank, there is no risk of explosion on board,” he adds.

Currently in the Gasgogne Gulf

One of the indicators of the proper functioning of such a submarine, belonging to the “kilo” category according to NATO’s criteria, is its ability to dive. The Novalossiisk “sails alone and by his own means, a kinematics that already means that he is not in perdition,” the Marine and Marine site also indicates.

With 20 minutes, the Atlantic maritime prefecture declared that “it has no element that suggests that the submarine is in difficulty”, particularly due to the lack of request for assistance. The captain of the Guillaume LE HASLE SOS frigate is “very careful even if we have no very close relationships with the Russians.”

Because the submarine almost 73 meters long and equipped with torpedoes and cruise missiles is currently in the Gas Cogne. Russia would have left in June. After being seen near the Strait of Gibraltar, therefore, the Mediterranean would have left to reach the Atlantic, where he would have sailed about 200 kilometers from the Portuguese coast.

Regular incursions

For several years, Russia has been common in incursions off the European coast. The Novorossisisk, attached to the Russian fleet of the Mer Noire and put into service in 2014, had already been spoken in 2022 when it was seen off the coast of Breton. He was finally escorted by the French Navy and then by European patrols.

Already in 2017, Jean-Yves Le Drian, then Minister of Foreign Affairs, explained that the Russian submarines now approached Breton’s coast. “What had been seen more for a long time,” he said. More recently, in June, a drag Breton had the surprising meeting of a Russian kilo class submarine that was tracked by the French Navy.

Every year, Brest’s maritime prefecture observes about thirty ascent and descendants of Russian unity. But since the departure of Bashar al-Assad of Syria, more than fifty movements have been identified. In fact, while the Bosphorus Strait is closed and Moscow has lost its naval base in Tarrous in Syria, the Russian fleet has repositioned certain submarines.
