It’s not just the American tech giants that are moving to a four-day week. According to the firm Alixio, 12% of companies think about it. In the North, in Roncq, the patron of the Senave carpentry has already taken the plunge.
Since it adopted this new rhythm of work, the activity of this SME, specialized in the installation of windows, has not slowed down: it has recorded as many sites and billing as before.
If this experience is still rare in the construction sector, it is a necessary choice for its manager Morgan Tognarini.
“We work better”
After two months of experimentation, the trial ended successfully. “We had to reorganize ourselves, find a different rhythm. Instead, today we are not going back in the sense that (…) we work better, the employees are more rested,” the company manager rejoices.
The workload has remained constant. The employees of the SME “work the same time for four days instead of five, without loss of salary as well.” If the working hours are necessarily longer, Sébastien Leman, a window installer, believes that “the weeks go by even faster” thanks to this new organization.
The company is also a winner as the four-day week also saves energy thanks to optimized working hours.
Northern Joinery has since been contacted by other companies for advice on how to set up the four-day week.
