Commercial negotiations between the various retail players have begun. A guest of BFM Business, Jacques Creyssel, General Delegate of the Fédération du Commerce et de la Distribution (FCD), which brings together most of the large retailers, once again took part in these debates, which this year are particularly complex.
“It’s quite normal for some of the inflation to pass through to consumers,” he said. But these increases in production costs cannot be carried forward without limit.
The president of the CDF stressed the importance of taking into account the energy costs of SMEs. But he also insisted on the need to negotiate with the big industrialists to distribute the weight of inflation and that “everyone make an effort.”
Margins between 12 and 15% for large manufacturers
However, these efforts must be made in proportion to the margins, he judged. “Distributors are making an effort to assume their margins, but their margin is 1%.” In comparison, those of the big manufacturers reached between 12 and 15%.
Jacques Creyssel also mentioned a drop in volumes for mass market products, especially fresh produce, “extremely worrying.”
Finally, the general delegate described as “insufficient” state aid intended to help companies cope with rising energy costs.
