EDF: what is the Tempo offer that has gained 60,000 customers in two months?

According to EDF, the Tempo offer has gained 7,000 clients per week for two months, compared to 100 per week in the first half of 2022.

The call for energetic sobriety has been heard. According to EDF, which has a 70% market share among individuals and 55 to 60% among companies, electricity consumption fell by 10% in November compared to November 2021.

Another unequivocal sign: the energy company’s Tempo offer has gained “60,000 customers in two months”, about 7,000 per week, compared to an average of 100 new Tempo customers per week in the first half of 2022.

With this subscription, these customers are encouraged by tariffs not to consume during the “red” period (limited to 22 days a year), thus “erasing” themselves at times of high voltage in the electrical network, which suffers the cut this winter of a large number of nuclear reactors for maintenance or repair. In October, EDF had indicated that it wanted to convince 5 million households to subscribe to the Tempo option.

Prices reduced by 30% 300 days a year

The Tempo offer, which succeeded the EJP (Effacement Jour de Pointe) option in 1998, already benefits more than 200,000 customers: “The philosophy is the same: send a rate signal that highlights the days when consumption is high and in which there is an interest in relieving the electrical system”, explained to BFM Business Benoît Lamberti, director of marketing and customer experience at EDF.

Specifically, the Tempo offer works with a color code. During the blue period, 300 days a year, households that contract this option benefit from reduced prices of 30% in peak hours (from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.) and 41% in off-peak hours compared to the sale price regulatory. During the 43 white days, the savings compared to the TRV amount to 10% in peak hours and 24% in off-peak hours.

On the other hand, during the 22 red days between November 1 and March 31, the kWh price at peak hours for Tempo subscribers is three times higher than the TRV in order to encourage them to reduce their consumption to relieve congestion. net. A 16% savings is still possible in off-peak hours. The customer is informed the day before through his Tempo calendar by SMS or email of the color of the next day. The color is also displayed at the counter from 8 pm
