SNCF: Wi-Fi reaches the TGV Ouigo, with supplement

The operator provides this service on its low-cost trains but, like all additional services, it will be paid for.

Available on all SNCF TGV Inoui, Wi-Fi is now available on all TGV Ouigo, the operator’s low-cost brand. This service was already available on the Paris-Lyon Ouigo line.

True to the economic model of this offer, the service will not be free (unlike conventional TGVs).

You will have to pay 3 euros per trip for simple Internet access (called Ouifi) and 5 euros for additional access to the entertainment portal (music, movies, press, games, etc.) called Ouifun.

To take advantage of it, two possibilities: after buying your ticket, through the site or through the OUIGO application “and as soon as your train is equipped with OUIFI, you will receive an email to subscribe”, explains the operator. It will also be possible to subscribe on board.

Options such as seat choice, baggage allowance and therefore Wi-Fi are at the heart of the Ouigo model, just like low-cost airlines.

If the ticket price is low, the carrier compensates for payment services: “30% of Ouigo customers pay to choose their seat,” explains Stéphane Rapebach, CEO of Ouigo.

Remember that from 2023, Ouigo will offer a daily round trip connecting Brest (via Saint-Brieuc, Guingamp and Morlaix) and Quimper with central Paris throughout the year.

Always in the direction of the Atlantic coast, a new line to La Rochelle from the center of Paris will also see the light of day. The destination to Perpignan will be open seasonally from the second quarter of 2023 until the end of the year.

The SNCF, for its part, decided to close the Ouigo link between Paris and Nancy was not considered profitable enough.
