Emmanuel Macron wants to fan the fires on the realization of a “Great Port that goes from Marseille to Lyon”, in particular for the transport of goods and energy, he indicated on Saturday to the newspaper La Provence. Together with the Spanish and Portuguese leaders, the French president officially inaugurated on Friday in Alicante, southeastern Spain, the ambitious hydrogen gas pipeline between Barcelona and Marseille, which should be completed by 2030.

“Marseille is a natural gateway, due to its geographical position and the presence of its forward-thinking industries. We also need to create, also here for reasons of energy and industrial coherence, this Grand Port that runs from Marseille to Lyon”, says Emmanuel Macron. This “will go up the furrow of the Rhône to transport energy and goods to the chemical valley, south of Lyon, and will also connect Germany and its productive heart.”
One of the largest in France, this port, which extends over an area equivalent to the city of Paris, receives nearly 10,000 ships each year. It handles around 80 million tons of cargo. Emmanuel Macron back in Marseille soon? “I will come to Marseille taking my time, as I have already done, in January or February,” the president replied to La Provence.
