The Government published this Sunday the decree by which the eligibility and validity periods of the exceptional energy check are set for the year 2022, whose automatic dispatch will begin at the end of the month, within a period spread over approximately 8 weeks, for aid 12 million households pay their bills. This decree, which will enter into force this Monday, “establishes the allocation of an exceptional energy check for 2022 for 12 million homes” and “sets the conditions of use and acceptance of the title.”
Expiration date extended by one more year
Distributed since 2018, an energy check is paid once a year in spring to the six million most modest households, to which is added this exceptional check for 2022 of 100 to 200 euros that will be sent automatically to the beneficiaries from the end of month, affecting a total of 12 million homes. The sending of this exceptional check will be “distributed within a period of approximately eight weeks”, specified the Ministry of Energy Transition.
Compared to the classic energy check, this decree extends the expiration of the exceptional energy check for another year. Energy providers “are only obliged to accept the exceptional energy check in payment until March 31, 2024”, and “it can only be presented for reimbursement until May 31, 2024”, the decree indicates. The amount of the check is set at “EUR 200 for households whose reference annual tax income per consumption unit is less than EUR 10,800” and at “EUR 100 for households whose reference annual tax income per consumption unit is greater than or equal to EUR 10,800 and less than EUR 17,400”, specifies the same text.
Additional help for heating oil and wood
On September 14, the government announced the payment of these exceptional checks in the context of rising energy prices. To preserve the purchasing power of households, the government has limited the increase in regulated sales prices for electricity and gas to 15% in 2023. In the absence of this price protection measure, the increase should have been 120%, underlines Bercy.
In addition, and also subject to resources, a fuel check of 100 to 200 euros and an aid of 50 to 200 euros for those who heat with firewood were also announced at the end of 2022.
