easyJet France flight attendants and hostesses will not go on strike at Christmas: After a day of negotiations, management agreed a major wage increase for 2023 and the unions withdrew their threat to file an end-of-year holiday strike notice.
“Management came back to us with a new proposal that we couldn’t refuse,” William Bourdon, the SNPNC union representative representing cabin crew (PNC), said on Wednesday. His Unac counterpart, Gaël Leloup, confirmed that he too signed the agreement after consulting his union members, of whom 70% responded favourably. However, he deplored the absence of measures in terms of career promotion and seniority, one of the main demands of Unac.
At the end of November, the Mandatory Annual Negotiations (NAO) ended in failure, which led the SNPNC and Unac to threaten to strike during the year-end holidays. easyJet’s French subsidiary finally agreed to increase the base salary of cabin crew by 7.5% and that of variable parts by 3.5% in 2023, detailed William Bourdon. It will also pay a “Macron bonus” of 3000 euros to all flight attendants and hostesses.
Other companies threatened by the Christmas strikes
The unions were demanding measures at least equal to inflation, or around 6%, especially since, at the same time, “the company chose to change insurers on our health insurance”, recalled William Bourdon at the end of November. The proposed salary increases did not cover the contribution increase induced by this change, as is now the case according to this delegate.
On Tuesday night, the company’s management had shown its optimism about the outcome of the conflict, assuring that the discussions with the unions were “encouraging”. Other companies continue to be threatened with strikes during the end-of-year celebrations, such as Air France, where two PNC unions call a strike from December 22 to January 2, in full renegotiation of the agreement that governs their working conditions.
