Regional trains: Alstom wins 370 million euros in additional orders in Spain

The initial contract for 152 trains has been revised to 201 trains for a total of €1.8 billion.

Alstom continues to consolidate its order book, especially in Spain. In 2021, Renfe (the traditional rail operator) placed an order for 152 Coradia Stream regional trains.

Today, the carrier is revising this order upwards with an additional 49 trains. In total, the contract thus amounts to 1,800 million euros, including 370 million for this complement.

This contract also includes the supply of spare parts and the maintenance of 56 of the trains for 15 years.

20% more passengers

All trains will be manufactured at Alstom’s production plant in Santa Perpetua, in the province of Barcelona. To carry out this project, the site is the subject of an investment and digitization plan that foresees, in particular, the creation of the largest automated workshop in the group.

“This is a historic project for Alstom in Spain, not only because of its scale, but also because it is a project built on a global concept of sustainability, from the call, offer and design phase”, commented Leopoldo Maestu, General Director of Alstom. Spain and Portugal.

These trains will allow Renfe to transport at least 20% more passengers per hour in the busiest railway junctions in the country, particularly in Madrid and Barcelona, the industrialist specifies.
