SNCF strike: a “very distressing” environment of uncertainty for travelers as the holidays approach

A few days before Christmas, users still do not know if they will be able to travel by train to reach their loved ones.

This is the question that is on everyone’s lips: will there be trains at Christmas? While several SNCF unions, including SUD-Rail, have maintained their strike notices, no formal strike call has been made. Therefore, it will be up to each controller, each employer, to decide individually whether to go on strike or not. Faced with this situation, SNCF users have no visibility of what awaits them during the holidays.

“We can hope that at least the negotiations advance,” he added, before referring to the various social movements that have marked the news of the transport company in recent weeks. Controllers, TER switches, SNCF Réseau, without forgetting the mobilization of a movement of controllers “a little free electrons”. “Everyone is a bit suspended in decisions that one wonders who makes them or how this will all end,” lamented Michel Quidort, a guest on the BFMTV set this Tuesday.

“The 15th month of December disturbed since 2003”

The federation leader also underlined the recurrence of these movements as the holidays approach.

Enough to consider provisions to alleviate the difficulties of travelers during this period. If it is not for a sacralization of the holidays, Michel Quidort is in favor of a minimum service like the one established in Italy. “In the train schedules, those that are going to run no matter what happens are marked with an asterisk,” he explains about the transalpine rail network. A way to ensure that users are fixed if they get stuck during a social move.

Finally, the FNAUT vice president called on the unions to respect the rules on strikes. “The unions must declare themselves two days in advance so that the SNCF can say 24 hours in advance which trains will run or not, and not at 5:00 p.m. the day before,” he recalled.
