“We absolutely have the wherewithal to avoid cuts this winter.” During the presentation of its latest analysis on Tuesday, RTE reduced the risk of tension in the electrical network to “medium” for the coming weeks.
By the end of 2022, “you can go on vacation in peace, the probability of using the red Ecowatt device is almost zero,” said even Thomas Veyrenc, executive director of RTE.
As a reminder, this sign warns of the risk of selective outages unless there are substantial reductions in electricity consumption.
“Signs 0 to 3” this winter
Furthermore, while RTE had planned to activate 0 to 5 red signals in winter, this risk dropped somewhat for the second part of the meteorological winter, to be “rather between 0 and 3 signals,” said Thomas Veyrenc. And this especially thanks to the 9% drop in consumption in recent weeks but also to the increase in the availability of the nuclear park, in line with the forecasts of the network manager.
All of them “these elements allow reducing the risk of issuance of the red Ecowatt signal” with respect to the baseline scenario established by RTE in September, said the manager. “The risk is decreasing. This does not mean zero risk, but rather that the energy saving actions that have been undertaken must absolutely be maintained over time”, concluded Thomas Veyrenc.
