Smoked salmon and ham withdrawn due to health risk

Several food products were withdrawn from the market this week by major French retailers: a brand of smoked salmon from E. Leclerc, as well as batches of ham distributed by Carrefour and Auchan.

Christmas is coming up and many families are shopping in stores to prepare their holiday meals. It is still necessary to make sure that the food is fresh. Since December 16, 2022, various distributors have posted recall sheets for products that are no longer fit for consumption.

Ham with traces of listeria

Two ham references sold by Carrefour and Auchan distributors on the shelves were the subject of recalls published on Monday directly on the Rappel Conso government site. The first product is a “superior cooked ham with rind 2 slices 80g” marketed by Extra Carrefour (lot 1127870, to be consumed before January 2, 2023) while the second is a “defatted superior ham without rind 4 slices” from the Auchan brand (lot 1129104, to be consumed before December 31, 2022).

Both were present on the shelves of Carrefour and Auchan supermarkets in France and are likely to cause listeriosis, a disease that is mainly transmitted due to poor food hygiene. Consumers who have these products in their refrigerator should dispose of them or return them to the store for a refund.

For those who have already consumed these products, and who present symptoms of fever, headaches and body aches, it is recommended to consult your doctor. Pregnant, elderly, and immunocompromised women are also asked to be alert to these symptoms within eight weeks of consumption.

Mislabeled Petit Navire Salmon

It is the turn of the great E. Leclerc brand to issue a reminder sheet on the batches of smoked salmon marketed by the Petit Navire brand. But this time, it’s a tagging error that has two different expiration dates.

This pack of ten 300g salmon slices titled “Highlands of Scotland” (lot 10352143280) has an official expiration date (use by) set for January 4, 2023. However, it is not recommended to consume the fish but take it back to the store for a refund or another product in exchange.

To avoid any risk of food poisoning during the winter holidays, it is advisable to take a look at the “Food” section of Rappel Conso: recently, several more alerts have been issued about foie gras, capon, prawns, smoked tuna or Munster.
