The general director of the SNCF sees unions tomorrow to try to save New Year’s Day

Too late to save Christmas weekend. Jean-Pierre Farandou, the executive director of the SNCF, is now trying to save the 1 of the year. He will meet with the unions tomorrow morning to find a way out of the crisis.

“There is no reason to punish the French twice by ruining their New Year’s Day,” SNCF chief executive Jean-Pierre Farandou said on RTL on Thursday, apologizing to the 200,000 users penalized for the controllers’ strike. . The leader thus loses Christmas weekend, but now he is trying to save New Year’s weekend. He will meet tomorrow morning with the unions to try to calm the situation.

On BFMTV, Laurent Berger, the CFDT’s general secretary, also says he is committed to making sure he “at least saves New Year’s weekend.”

This mission is also that of the government. In FranceInfo, Clément Beaune, the transport minister, also said the New Year’s bailout was “the fight to fight”.

Isn’t this mission already lost? For the management of the SNCF, as for the unions or even for the government, the situation seems inextricable. The movement was launched by a non-union collective. Dialogue seems impossible with strikers who appear to be non-unionized.

3000 euros per year

The general director of the SNCF recalls that the controllers recently obtained an increase of 7.5%, or 3000 euros per year. And as this profession required, now there are two skippers per train. But he now recognizes the difficulty of dialoguing with a movement whose leaders we don’t know. In addition, at the meeting scheduled for tomorrow, he will face union leaders.

At a time when the French are opting for the train to the detriment of the plane or the car, the image of the public company is even more tarnished. SNCF is trying to do everything possible to alleviate the inconvenience and not lose its customers, especially when users turn to other competing SNCF services, such as buses, car sharing or car rental.

The management announced the redemption and cancellation of tickets for canceled trains free of charge. Refunds will be 200% on vouchers valid for at least two years, Jean-Pierre Farandou said.
