France should not experience specific power outages until mid-January, Emmanuelle Wargon, president of the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), confirmed on Wednesday.
“Until January 15, we know we won’t have any difficulties,” he told France Inter, confirming RTE’s announcements last week.
“It is still a bit early to say what will happen in the middle of winter”, but the effort of sobriety by the French, combined with the gradual return to the service of the
nuclear reactors and the absence of long episodes of very intense cold so far mean that “we are rather not so bad”.
“It is true that the call for sobriety has really been heard. In the last 4 months we have been at -9% in electricity consumption, for companies and families, ”she underlines.
“On the business side, we don’t know if (the drop in consumption) is efficiency or a drop in production, and in this case it is not good news for the economy,” the manager qualifies, however.
