Public officials may be authorized to combine “a lucrative activity of driving a school transport vehicle or similar” with their work, according to a decree published this Thursday in the Official Gazette. The measure was taken to overcome the “difficulties in hiring drivers” that disturb “the proper functioning” of school transport services “as well as organized transport on demand for students and students with disabilities,” the decree specifies.
The text signed by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, as well as by the Ministers of Public Services Stanislas Guérini, Interior Gérald Darmanin, Ecological Transition Christophe Béchu and Health François Braun is an “experimental device for a period of three years”.
“prior authorization”
The agents of the three aspects of the public service -State, communities and hospitals- will be able to work as bus drivers but they must obtain “prior and individual authorization from the public employer” to which they belong, the decree also details. The exercise as an accessory to the driver’s activity “should not affect the normal operation, independence or neutrality of the service to which the agent is attached,” the text also stipulates.
