A call for help”. For the first time in his life, Julien Pedussel, an artisan baker from Rieux (Oise), went to demonstrate this Monday morning at a roundabout not far from his shop. Objective: to warn about the looming threat about his profession, hit hard by the rise in energy prices.
With a bill of 6,000 euros in November and 12,000 euros in December, compared to 1,800 euros before the crisis, and a monthly bill of 20,000 euros, the situation “has become unbearable because the electricity bills are so high that I can’t pay them. If I pay them, I can’t pay my employees, my suppliers and the rest of my expenses”, laments Julien Pedussel on BFMTV.
“An entire profession that dies”
Unable to pay, the baker “opposed” his TotalEnergies bill. “I will continue working as long as I have power and if unfortunately the price of electricity does not change quickly, I will be forced and forced to close my business,” he says.
“The electricity providers are suffocating us, they are killing us,” says the man who says he wants to warn about the “great crisis” affecting bakers. According to him, it is “an entire profession that is on the verge of dying.”
For this reason, it asks the Government to “act” by doing “more than what they offered us, that is, a 20% buffer on my bill.” Otherwise, many bakers across France will go bankrupt, he warns.
